Are tortilla and naan the same? ›

They taste similar, but I think the draw to naan is in the texture. It's not smooth like a flour tortilla is and it's a lot fluffier. Naans are nothing like tortillas. Try and get your hands on a good naan.

What is the difference between flatbread and naan? ›

Naan is another flatbread traditionally served in Indian restaurants but the difference is that there will already be a filling inside these flatbread pockets. Naan may be stuffed with curd, fresh desiccated coconut, butter, nigella seeds, and raisins.

Why is my naan bread not fluffy? ›

If the pan is not hot enough then the naan will not rise well. So ensure it is hot but not extremely hot.

Do tortilla presses work on flour? ›

Can You Use a Tortilla Press for Flour Tortillas? Despite common belief, tortilla presses are great for flour tortillas. Not only do tortilla presses speed up the process, but they also eliminate the mess of flour that is usually associated with rolling tortillas out with a rolling pin.

What do Indians call their tortillas? ›

"Chapati is the most commonly eaten bread in Northern India. It is very similar in shape to the Mexican tortilla, but very different in texture and flavor. If you make Chapati ahead of time, reheat before serving by wrapping a stack in foil and heat in a 325° oven for 10 to 15 minutes.

Which is healthier, naan or pita? ›

Simply put, naan is more nutrient-dense than pita or white bread. While it may contain more carbs and sugars, it earns its reputation as a healthy alternative with its relatively generous amounts of protein and fiber.

Depending on what your nutrient needs are, bread, pita, and naan can all fit into a healthy diet. Naan and pita have many of the same benefits of other breads, including carbs, iron, and vitamin B. Why does naan need yogurt? ›

Aside from more general 'bread' ingredients such as salt, a little sugar, water and some oil, a lot of naan recipes contain yogurt as well. Yogurt can serve a few functions. If you use it with baking soda, it provides the acid that the soda needs to become activated and leaven the bread.
